Future Implications
One of the major implications for the future of film preservation has to do with born-digital film materials and how to most effectively preserve them. There are so many digital materials being made that archivists have come to question of what is worth being preserved. Also, as the amount of digital materials proliferate, archivists are coming up with ways to handle digital storage on hard drives. Digital files can become corrupted, so archivists are working toward a solution on how to most effectively preserve these materials. The Library of Congress has been working on what’s called the “Audio-Visual Prototyping Project” that has been underway since 1999 to try and retain the original information on born-digital materials respond to formatting issues related to the materials and the technologies that the data is written onto[1].
